SAT & ACT

North Hollywood High School will administer a FREE SAT School Day exam for all Juniors ( Class of 2024) on March 22!

All Juniors are automatically registered for the SAT School Day exam.

The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and American College Test (ACT) are recommended assessments for admission to most universities. While many colleges and universities have gone test-optional for the 2021-22 admissions cycle, we still encourage all students to take at least one of these assignments if possible, as there is no downside to testing.

Seniors are reminded that they must send their scores to colleges via College Board or act.org. You can send scores to all CSU campuses using SAT CODE 3594. When applying to private universities, the Common App and Coalition will provide a section to list your standardized test scores, and most universities will also require you to send official score reports directly from the College Board. The University of California system no longer accepts SAT or ACT scores, even on an optional basis.

If you're wondering whether to take the SAT or ACT, take a look at this brief guide from the Princeton Review to see which type of test is right for you. The primary distinction is scaling, as the SAT uses a 400-1600 scale whereas the ACT is 1-36. In addition, the ACT has a science section while the SAT does not. Among out-of-state colleges that accept standardized test scores, the SAT is generally more popular on the East Coast, whereas the ACT is preferred in the Midwest.

If you took the ACT with writing, multiple-choice scores are posted first, and your writing scores will be posted online as soon as they are ready.

For the ACT, the writing section is optional, but recommended, as nearly three hundred schools accept an ACT writing score. On the other hand, for the SAT, both the SAT with writing and SAT Subject Tests (SAT II) have been phased out and College Board will no longer offer them.

Below, you will find a link to free SAT test prep from Khan Academy, ranging from practice problems to an entire sample exam.

The Los Angeles Public Library also offers free ACT and SAT practice tests and other resources. You can reach out for additional information by calling your local LAPL branch, or contact them at https://www.lapl.org/about-lapl/contact-us.
