Common Application

The Common Application is a type of college admissions application that students can use to apply to more than 900 public and private colleges and universities across the entire United States. The concept is simple: students complete one Common Application form for many schools. Some colleges accept the Common App as their sole application document, while others may require a supplemental form of their own to complete the application process. The procedure simplifies the college application process and eliminates repetitive busy work. In fact, it has become the preferred method of submitting “Early Decision/Action” applications to many top-tier colleges and universities.

When filling out the Common App, you will be asked to list your high school grades and courses, extracurricular activities, standardized testing scores and dates, and parent or legal guardian information. Get a head start and save yourself time by collecting this information before you fill out the application. You will be glad you did.

Many member institutions have their supplemental materials, such as essays or short answer prompts, linked to the Common App. If a college or university has signed the Common Application agreement, then they have agreed to accept this application equally to their own form. If you have any doubts about whether a school you’re interested in accepts the Common Application, you may check on their website or on the Common App website link below.

NOTE: CSU & UC colleges do not subscribe to the Common Application.
