College/University Information Sessions

The North Hollywood High School College Center offers a number of resources for students interested in learning about college. For instance, Volunteers of America is stationed at the College Center and can assist if you join the program. The Youth Policy Institute can also help after school.

However, if you are interested in learning about a specific college, you can also attend a college information session. These virtual or in-person presentations provide students with insight about a specific college from students, alumni, and/or admissions officers. You can also ask questions for further insight. Most colleges and universities provide information about information sessions on their website, and it is free to sign up. In addition, some schools consider demonstrated interest in their application process, meaning that student involvement with a given university during high school can affect your chance of admissions to said school. Attending information sessions is a great way to showcase interest in a college.

College Fairs serve as another helpful form of outreach. At college fairs, instead of one university presenting, dozens or even hundreds of colleges and universities set up stations and provide brief pitches to interested students. Workshops may also be offered. LAVC will be hosting their annual College Fest event on Saturday, September 18th, and we highly encourage students to attend!
